Position Summary
This position calls for an educator who inspires intellectual curiosity, creativity, and a love of reading texts closely. The Middle School English Teacher supports students in developing confident speaking and writing skills while nurturing their growth in faith, virtue, and character. In addition to classroom teaching, the role includes advising a small group of students and actively contributing to the middle school community through athletics, fine arts, or clubs.
Primary Responsibilities
Teach middle school English courses with an emphasis on reading, writing, grammar, and language development
Foster a classroom environment that encourages curiosity, close reading, thoughtful discussion, and joyful learning
Support students in developing clear, confident written and oral communication skills
Challenge students to grow intellectually while cultivating enthusiasm for literature and learning
Serve as an advisor to a small group of students, supporting their academic and personal development
Participate in the broader life of the school through involvement in athletics, fine arts, or extracurricular activities
Uphold and advance the mission and values of St. David’s School
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in English Education, Elementary Education, English, or a related field (required)
Three or more years of middle school teaching experience preferred
Master’s degree in Education, Literacy, or a related field preferred
Strong content knowledge and effective instructional practices for middle school learners
Passion for working with adolescents and supporting their growth during the formative middle school years
Commitment to collaboration and professional growth within a collegial faculty community
